Overview
The procedure
Having a child is one of life’s greatest gifts. For many mothers, though, getting back the body they had before pregnancy can feel impossible, no matter how much they diet or exercise. Pregnancy, breastfeeding and weight fluctuations leave their mark mainly on the breasts and the abdomen, stretched skin, separated abdominal muscles and loss of breast volume.
A mommy makeover is a personalised combination of plastic surgery procedures that corrects these changes in a single operation. Instead of several separate surgeries with multiple recovery periods, you undergo one anaesthesia and one recovery. It has been one of the most successful and rewarding procedures in plastic surgery for over 30 years, created for mothers who have put their children first and are now ready to feel like themselves again.
What does a mommy makeover include?
There is no single, standard mommy makeover, the procedure is fully tailored to your body and your goals. The most common procedures included are:
- Tummy tuck (abdominoplasty): removes excess abdominal skin and repairs separated abdominal muscles (diastasis recti) to flatten and firm the stomach.
- Liposuction: refines the waist, hips, flanks and thighs, where post-pregnancy fat is most stubborn, and is often combined with abdominoplasty for an hourglass result.
- Breast surgery: a breast augmentation, a breast lift, or a combination of both, to restore the volume and position lost after breastfeeding.
Depending on your goals, your plan can also include fat transfer (lipotransfer) or a butt lift. During your consultation, Dr. Strevinas recommends the exact combination of procedures that suits you.
Ideal candidates for a Mommy Makeover
A mommy makeover is best suited to women who:
- have completed their family and are not planning further pregnancies;
- are at or near a stable, healthy weight, but still have excess abdominal skin and a loose abdominal wall;
- have breast ptosis (sagging) or loss of breast volume;
- are in good general health, are non-smokers (or willing to stop before surgery), and have realistic expectations and a desire for a natural-looking result.
The mommy makeover procedure
The mommy makeover is performed under general anaesthesia and usually takes 3–4 hours, depending on the combination of procedures. Incisions are placed in discreet, easily hidden locations, for the abdomen, low along the bikini line. Muscle repair, skin removal, liposuction contouring and breast correction are all completed in the same session, which keeps anaesthesia time to a minimum and means a single recovery for you.
Recovery after a mommy makeover
Most patients return to light daily activities in about two weeks and to exercise within four to six weeks, supported by a compression garment. Mild to moderate discomfort during the first days is managed with medication. The final result settles over the following months as swelling subsides and scars fade. Following your surgeon’s aftercare instructions closely is the single most important factor for a smooth recovery and a long-lasting result.

Frequently asked questions
Questions & answers
How much does a mommy makeover cost?
The cost of a mommy makeover depends on the exact combination of procedures (tummy tuck, liposuction, breast augmentation or breast lift), the operating time and your individual needs. Because every plan is fully tailored, we provide a personalised quote after your consultation. Fill in the "Ask for cost" form and we will contact you with an indicative price.
What's included in a mommy makeover?
Most mommy makeovers include a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) and breast surgery, very often combined with liposuction. Additional procedures such as fat transfer (lipotransfer) or a butt lift can be included based on your goals. Your surgeon designs the combination that best fits your body.
Is there a non-surgical or "mini" mommy makeover?
A mini mommy makeover uses smaller incisions and addresses milder skin laxity, while non-surgical options (such as energy-based skin tightening) can complement results in selected cases. However, true muscle separation and significant excess skin require surgery. Dr. Strevinas will advise which approach is realistic for you during your consultation.
When can I have a mommy makeover after pregnancy?
A mommy makeover is recommended once you have completed your family and your weight is stable, usually at least six months after childbirth and after you have finished breastfeeding. A future pregnancy can reverse the abdominal results, so it is best to plan the procedure when you are not intending to have more children.
How long is the recovery after a mommy makeover?
Most patients return to light activities in about two weeks and to exercise within four to six weeks, wearing a compression garment as advised. The final result settles over the following months as swelling resolves and scars fade.
Are mommy makeover results permanent and will it leave scars?
Results last for many years, but they are not strictly permanent, as the body continues to change with age and weight fluctuations. Incisions are placed in discreet areas, such as the bikini line, and fade significantly over time. Maintaining a stable weight and avoiding further pregnancies helps preserve your result.
