Ideal candidates

Preparation
First you need to talk to the plastic surgeon to decide on the future size, feel and look of your breast. In your first appointments, the plastic surgeon shall also assess your medical history and health condition; then, the following may be asked:
- Blood test
- Be administered some medication or adjusting any already administered medication
- Stop smoking
- Avoiding aspirin and specific anti-inflammatory drugs
- Stop drinking alcohol and using drugs
The plastic surgeon shall also establish if a preoperative mammography is required.
Operation
The method of breast augmentation implant insertion and placement depends on each woman’s anatomy. Usually a small incision is made in the lower part of the breast or in the armpit or around the nipple (periareolar). Incisions are performed at these points to be as less visible as possible. The whole operation does not exceed 2 hours.
Anesthesia
In specific cases, breast augmentation can be performed under local anesthesia. In most cases, however, general anesthesia is required.
Silicone Implants
Silicone implants are filled with a state-of-the-art cohesive silicone gel. This gel gives the feeling of natural breast.
Implants may be round or teardrop shaped, of high or moderate profile. The ideal implant shall be decided based on the female proportions, always according to the subject’s wishes and in consultation with the plastic surgeon.
There are also saline inserts filled with sterile saline after being implanted into the body. They are slightly tighter in texture; in case of leakage, the implant shall be destroyed and the body shall absorb the fluid naturally.

Techniques
Breast augmentation can be performed by incision at the lower part of the breast (inframammary), around the nipple (periareolar) or at the axilla (axillary).
Inframammary incision enables no touch-dual plane technique, which is established by recent research to be the safest method in terms of complications or implant contamination, fibrous capsule and ALCL. Incision at this point is discreet and rapidly healing – 6 months later the scar is hardly distinguishable.
An experienced plastic surgeon is well acquainted with all the techniques and shall choose the right technique and implant for each subject depending on the body type and the desired breast shape. Generally speaking, round inserts offer in a more intense décolletage, whereas the anatomic one have a more natural effect; yet this is not the rule.
In some cases of breast augmentation, usually in very thin women, it is advisable to place the implant under the muscle for better coverage and more natural shape. In other cases, it is recommended to place the inserts over the muscle so that the breasts are convergent.
Risks
Modern inserts are rather safe; and at breast plastic surgery high quality certified inserts are always applied. However, among the potential dangers of breast augmentation fibrous capsule is included. Rarely, implant rupture, injury or visible ripple, hematoma or inflammation and visible scarring may occur. All of the above are treated and shall be thoroughly discussed during your examination in the practice.
Recovery and Results
Waiting for the results of the plastic surgery, keep your expectations realistic.
The breast plastic surgery can change the size and shape of your breast and even improve your body image and self-confidence. However, you should keep in mind that your breast shall continue to “age” despite the surgery, while increasing or losing weight may also change its appearance. After the surgery, you can return home. Usually there is no particular discomfort and, in case there is, it is treated with the administration of analgesics.
You shall be ready to return to work 3-4 days after surgery. However, it is very important to keep all activities to a minimum for the first few days. You can start exercising about 6 weeks later, while during the first month you have to wear a special bra.
